Lie To Me

from Again by Clark Colborn

/

about

I wrote the music a while back, but had no lyrics. I thought about playing the melody on the guitar, but it just felt like it needed lyrics. Because I don't think of myself as a singer, I just let it sit. Then one day I heard the phrase "Lie To Me" on TV; it was the name of a show on Fox. I thought "Why would anyone want someone to lie to them?"

Thinking about that resulted in these lyrics, which is what the song seemed to want.

lyrics

I miss the way we used to touch
There's all these little things I miss so much
I miss when there was more to life than 9-to-5
Most of all I miss the hunger in your eyes

Oh, lie to me
I need to hear you lie to me
If that's the only way I can hear you say you love me
Then lie to me

A kiss is not a promise that's been made
Like a flower, love can fade
Inside the truth there is a beauty to be known
Inside a lie there is a beauty of its own

Oh, lie to me
I need to hear you lie to me
If that's the only way I can hear you say you love me
Then lie to me

Inextricably connected
Had a soul until you wrecked it
Living inside a delusion
Self-worth based upon illusion
Filled with fear and trepidation
Only one phrase brings salvation
Let 'em wait. let 'em stare
Hallucinate that you still care
Lie to me

Just inches apart, yet so far away
Plenty of talk, but nothing to say
The truth can bring you pain as well as bring you joy
A lie can give you hope, a lie can just destroy

Oh, lie to me
I need to hear you lie to me
If that's the only way I can hear you say you love me
Then lie to me
